Main article

Your resume gets you the interview — but your online profile gets you found in the first place. Indian recruiters use both Naukri and LinkedIn extensively. Here's how to maximise both.

Naukri Profile Optimisation

Naukri's algorithm ranks profiles based on profile completeness and keyword density. A complete, keyword-rich profile gets surfaced to recruiters automatically.

Priority Checklist

1. Resume Headline (most important)
Your headline appears in every recruiter search result. Keep it specific:

Full Stack Developer | React, Node.js, 4+ Years
Looking for opportunities

2. Key Skills Section
Add all relevant skills explicitly — don't assume the algorithm will extract them from your resume. Naukri's search uses the skills field heavily.

3. Current and Desired Locations
Set both. Recruiters filter by location first.

4. Salary Expectations
Set a realistic range. Profiles with salary info get more recruiter visibility.

5. Resume Freshness
Naukri's algorithm prefers recently updated profiles. Re-save your profile at least once a month even with no changes — this bumps your ranking.

6. Notice Period
Set accurately. Many recruiters filter on notice period.

LinkedIn Profile Optimisation

LinkedIn is used more by MNCs, startups, and tech companies. It's also the primary channel for inbound recruiter outreach.

The Big Five

1. Professional Photo
Profiles with photos get 14× more views. Use a clean headshot with a neutral background. No selfies or cropped group photos.

2. Headline
By default, LinkedIn uses your job title. Customise it to include keywords:

Senior Backend Engineer @ Razorpay | Python · Go · Distributed Systems

3. About Section
This is your professional summary expanded to ~150 words. Write in first person. Include:

  • What you do and for how long
  • Your top 2–3 specialisations
  • A notable achievement
  • What you're open to

4. Experience with Bullets
Don't just list your job title and company. Add 3–5 achievement-focused bullet points per role (same as your resume).

5. Skills + Endorsements
Add your top 10 skills. Ask colleagues to endorse the key ones. LinkedIn shows skill endorsements in search results.

Open to Work Flag

If you're actively job hunting, turn on "Open to Work". You can set it to show only to recruiters (not your current employer's network) by selecting "Recruiters only" in the settings.

Consistency Between Resume and Profiles

Recruiters cross-check your resume with your Naukri/LinkedIn profile. Inconsistencies (different dates, different job titles) are a red flag.

Rule: Your resume, Naukri, and LinkedIn should tell the same story with the same dates and titles.

Global-English expansion strategy

If you are targeting international roles:

  • Use globally recognizable titles in headline (for example, "Software Engineer" vs only internal designation)
  • Keep location and remote preference explicit
  • Add projects/outcomes in language understandable beyond local context

15-minute weekly profile routine

  1. Update one recent achievement
  2. Refresh top 10 skills
  3. Reply to 3 relevant recruiter posts/messages
  4. Save and re-index profile

Consistency beats one-time polishing.
